Welcome

Physics Of Magma Propagation: a multi-mEthodological Investigation (POMPEI)

The CCMP-POMPEI project was funded by the European Research Council through an ERC Starting Grant to Eleonora Rivalta.

The POMPEI team studied in a multi-methodological way the dynamics of magma propagation and fluid-filled fractures in general, from their initiation to their stopping, including the interaction of ascending magma with external factors, such as the local and tectonic stress field, layering, fracturing, faulting. As for the methodologies, we combined laboratory experiments, numerical and theoretical modelling with the analysis of field observations.

The POMPEI project is now concluded. Please browse this website for a summary of our results.

On 30 June the project was officially concluded. We will continue working as a team until 31 December 2015.
